$400–$3,000. Common landscapes: $400–$1,000. Key value factors: Mabuchi's serene landscapes have a modest but loyal collector following.
Persimmons and Western pears (yonashi) share the composition of this woodblock print, the Japanese title naming both fruits in a pairing that juxtaposes an indigenous autumn staple with an imported variety. The round, flattened kaki and the elongated, bell-shaped yonashi create a formal contrast of curves, with each fruit's distinct silhouette playing against the other. Mabuchi arranges the two fruits as partners in a still-life dialogue, their different colors, textures, and proportions generating visual interest through comparison. The print continues Mabuchi's practice of finding complete compositions in the simplest arrangements of natural objects, where two or three items on a surface provide all the formal complexity an image requires.
