Koitsu's daytime landscapes and non-nocturnal scenes are less common on the primary market but still reflect his mastery of atmosphere and color. Values have risen steadily over the past decade.
Lake Yamanaka (Yamanakako), the highest of the Fuji Five Lakes, sits closest to the mountain's base and offers some of the most intimate views of its southern slopes. Koitsu renders the lake in a soft atmospheric haze, the mountain looming above the near shoreline with an almost overwhelming scale. The Japanese title — 山中湖 — frames the image within the classical topographic tradition, the Chinese-character names for these Five Lakes carrying centuries of poetic and artistic association.
