Description

A young woman stands in profile against a plain buff-colored ground, her head bowed slightly with eyes downcast, one hand raised holding a folded fan and the other tucked into her sleeve. She wears a layered blue-grey kimono patterned with pale florals over a green under-robe with a floral hem, cinched with a vermillion under-sash and a pale patterned obi, her hair swept up in a dark coiffure with ornamental pins; a low black lacquer stand sits at her feet. This hanging scroll, painted in Nihonga mineral pigments on silk by Uemura Shōen and titled *Daughter*, bears the artist's signature and seal at the lower left.
