A Father And His Son

A father and his son—the transmission of something from one generation to the next, perhaps mountaineering craft or simply the wordless understanding of shared terrain—appears in Azechi's work as one of his fundamental relational subjects. His simplified figures depict the pair in a posture that contains both the generation gap and the bond: the larger form and the smaller form, both built from the same visual language, bound by proximity and whatever invisible knowledge passes between them in the mountain world he loved.
