Fukagawa Susaki and Jumantsubo (Fukagawa Susaki Jumantsubo), from the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (Meisho Edo hyakkei)"
- Series:
- One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (print 107 of 118)
- Medium:

One of the most boldly composed prints in the Meisho Edo hyakkei series, this winter scene is dominated by an eagle rendered in dramatic close-up in the foreground, its body cropped at the image edge and talons gripping a bare branch. Beyond the bird, a wide expanse of snow-dusted tidal flats and the pale grey waters of Edo Bay recede to the distant Bōsō hills. The jumantsubo—approximately 33 hectares of open coastal land in the Fukagawa district—served as a site for falconry and seasonal recreation. The juxtaposition of the enormous bird in tight focus against the expansive pale landscape creates a compositional tension characteristic of Hiroshige's experimental framing in the later Meisho Edo hyakkei prints, where foreground cropping dramatizes depth.
