Description
Inuka Kempachi Nobumichi, another of the "Eight Dog Heroes" from Bakin's Hakkenden, is shown directing men in a failed attempt to arrest the fugitive hero Inuzuka Shino Moritaka. The scene captures the organized chaos of a pursuit operation — Inuka's commanding gesture, the subordinate figures fanning out to surround the rooftop — with the spatial compression Kuniyoshi employed in scenes of urban combat. The Hakkenden heroes' confrontations with authority made them natural subjects for Kuniyoshi's interest in embattled individuals.
