Description
A linocut from the 2024 Dante cycle whose triple-part title plays on the rearrangement of letters in amor, the Latin and Italian word for love that runs through Dante's Vita Nuova and the closing line of the Paradiso, l'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. The anagrammatic title — amor / or-am / more — points to a print built around the visual reshuffling of letterforms, in keeping with Ho's interest in text-image relationships and the artists' book tradition. Linocut lends itself well to typographic carving: letters reversed for printing, cut directly into the block, can carry the rhythm of stamped lettering without the formality of a metal type page. The print extends Ho's recurring meditations on love, attachment, and language across her serial cycles, and reflects the Dante project's habit of weaving Italian source-words into English-titled sheets. As with the rest of the cycle, it draws on her training across mokuhanga, intaglio, and screenprint while keeping to a single relief block.
