Description
Reflections in water — whether a canal, a pond, or a puddle after rain — are Karhu's subject in this 1966 print, the mirrored surfaces providing an alternative view of his usual architectural subjects: upside-down, distorted by movement, made strange by the accident of angle and light. The reflections series represents a different approach to the same Kyoto visual material he explored across his career — finding in the city's water surfaces an abstract dimension to a fundamentally concrete urban subject.
