Shichijo Shinchi was one of Kyoto's older entertainment districts, and Karhu's 1976 print captures its distinctive mixture of wooden machiya townhouses and commercial signage in the warm late light of an afternoon. The composition draws on Karhu's extraordinary eye for the geometry of traditional Kyoto streetscapes — the rhythm of facade elements, the weight of heavy tile rooflines, the way noren and signboards layer the visual surface. Edition 16 of 100, the print represents Karhu's mature approach to the Kyoto street scene.
