$500–$5,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Kitaoka's refined style has a modest but loyal collector base.
Inabanuma is a lake in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, and in winter its reed beds and still water take on a particular quality of cold stillness. Kitaoka renders the winter lake with the compressed, horizontal emphasis that makes his landscape prints so distinctive: the water as a dark, reflective plane, the reed beds as vertical strokes at the margins, the whole scene reduced to the essential geometry of a cold, quiet day on a flat, reedy lake. The title's specificity anchors the atmospheric impression in an actual place.
