Momiji 2 returns to the autumn maple motif, likely shifting the viewpoint, scale, or palette in relation to the first print in the series. Where one variation may emphasize a full canopy in saturated crimson, another might isolate a smaller specimen against a more luminous ground, allowing Namiki to study how the same subject behaves under different compositional conditions. The print is built through layered mokuhanga impressions, with the foliage assembled from many warm-toned passes rather than a single block of red, and [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations softening both the edges of the canopy and the surrounding atmosphere. The trunk is typically described with restrained line and tone, anchoring the composition without competing with the leaves. Like Namiki's other tree subjects, the maple is treated as a solitary, contemplative form rather than as part of a populated landscape. The print is hand-carved and hand-printed by the artist on handmade [washi](/glossary/washi) using water-based pigments, in keeping with the [sosaku-hanga](/glossary/sosaku-hanga) principle of artist as sole creator.
