$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
A cliff face — "A Cliff (3)" from 1995 — becomes in Hagiwara's treatment a study in the vertical drama of geological time: the strata, cracks, and surface textures of exposed rock rendered through the carved woodblock's capacity to translate physical surface into printed mark. Hagiwara's late career showed an increasing interest in natural geological subjects, finding in rock formations the same layered complexity he had explored in more abstract compositions. The third in the series suggests a sustained investigation of cliff imagery from multiple angles or with varying technique.
