$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Autumn Clouds at Jurigi (1986) captures the heavy, layered clouds of late autumn as they move through the sky above the Jukkokutoge area — a mountain pass and valley in the Fuji Five Lakes region that Hagiwara returned to repeatedly in his landscape work. The autumn cloud formations, with their complex layering of greys and whites above the already-colored autumn landscape, provided a subject where Hagiwara's multi-block color technique could operate at maximum atmospheric depth. The Jurigi location gave the clouds a specific topographic grounding while the treatment pushed toward the universal.
