$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Autumn Wind in the Foothills (1981–86) belongs to the series of Fuji region landscape prints that Hagiwara created over the first half of the 1980s, each work exploring the varied atmospheric conditions around the mountain through his distinctive multi-block color and carved-surface technique. The autumn wind is rendered not through the depiction of movement itself but through its effects: bent grasses, the particular quality of light in wind-scoured air, the golden and orange palette of wind-stripped leaves. The foothills location places the viewer at mid-distance from the mountain, close enough for intimacy, far enough for perspective.
