$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Burning Meadows at Asagiri (1981–86) captures the seasonal burning of the Asagiri Highlands — a high plateau on the southern slopes of Mount Fuji where farmers burned the meadows each winter to improve the following year's pasturage. The controlled fires sweeping across the plateau at the foot of the snow-covered mountain created one of the most dramatic visual events in the Fuji landscape, the orange flames and dark smoke contrasting with the white volcanic cone above. Hagiwara renders the burning in his most dramatically coloristic mode.
