Description
Chikubu Island floats in the northern reaches of Lake Biwa under a full moon, its forested profile dark against the luminous night sky and its reflection broken by the slight movement of the lake's vast surface. The island's sacred character — home to ancient shrines and temples accessible only by boat — gave it an otherworldly quality perfectly suited to moonlight treatment. Hagiwara renders the moonlit island in his distinctive style, the lunar glow creating the dramatic contrast between light and dark that his multi-block color technique handled with particular sophistication.
