$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Dawn over Lake Kawaguchi (1981–86) captures the pre-dawn moment when the lake's surface still holds the darkness of night while the eastern sky begins its gradual brightening behind the silhouette of the surrounding mountains. Hagiwara's multiple Fuji lake compositions in this series each explored a different quality of light and atmosphere, and the dawn moment — that threshold between one day and the next — carried particular resonance for an artist drawn to transitional states. Lake Kawaguchi's famous reflected-Fuji view is here explored at its most liminal, the mountain barely distinguishable from its reflection in the pre-dawn darkness.
