Description
A snow-capped mountain peak, rimmed in red at its edge, rises against a deep indigo silhouette of slopes and a jagged treeline below; two small white birds fly near the peak's base. Above, a golden-orange sky is banded with horizontal streaks of pink and mauve cloud, growing denser and more textured toward the top of the composition. The palette is divided cleanly between the warm gradient of the sky and the cool dark mass of the mountain, giving the scene a still, hushed quality. Hideo Hagiwara, "Dawn over Lake Kawaguchi," 1981, woodblock print, ink and color on paper.
