$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
The road to Oshino — a village on the slopes of Mount Fuji near Lake Yamanaka — becomes in Hagiwara's hands a study in the atmospheric textures of the Fuji Five Lakes region. Created between 1981 and 1986, this work belongs to his sustained engagement with the Fuji landscape in his mature years, the familiar volcanic terrain providing a subject for meditations on surface, season, and the spiritual presence of the mountain. The "way to" framing suggests a pilgrimage approach, the road a path of contemplation.
