$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Three Windows renders the compositional motif of the window — the frame-within-a-frame that controls what is visible and what is excluded — as a meditation on seeing and representation. Three windows arranged within the composition each presented a different view or quality of light, the triplication creating a visual argument about the relationship between the frame and what it contains. Hagiwara's abstract approach to the window motif avoided the simple picturesque of a view through a window, using the window instead as a formal device for exploring the nature of visual selection.
