This 1920s print from the heart of Yoshida's jizuri period represents his mature shin-hanga technique. Standard jizuri prints of Japanese landscapes cluster around $2,149 (1stDibs dealer benchmark). The jizuri seal — indicating Yoshida personally supervised printing — is the single most important value driver, typically doubling the price over non-jizuri lifetime impressions.
The Chikugo River at Hita — a market town in the mountains of Oita Prefecture on Kyushu known for its traditional merchant architecture along the river — is captured here in evening light in 1927. Yoshida depicts the river's steady flow past embankments and wooden buildings, the fading sky reflected in the water below. The Kyushu subject has particular biographical resonance: Yoshida was born in Kurume, also on the Chikugo River, making this a return to his home landscape rendered with a trained master's eye.
