Description
A large crowd, silhouetted in dark tones, gathers at night before an illuminated stage or stall festooned with banners, red and white bunting, and hanging picture panels bearing painted animal figures; two lantern-like lights glow above the display. The scene is dominated by a deep indigo night sky studded with a few stars, contrasting with the warm reds, greens, and golds of the lit structure and its decorative curtains and flags. Vertical Japanese text appears along the lower left margin, and figures in the crowd stand facing the display with their backs to the viewer.
