Description
Kegon Waterfall in woodblock — the final printed version of this iconic natural subject — captures the plunging cascade of the Kegon Falls at its full dramatic impact. The vertical format natural to a tall waterfall subjects allows Nisaburo to emphasize the water's long drop from the cliff edge to the misty pool below, the white torrent of water contrasting with the dark basalt cliff face and the surrounding forest. The shin-hanga technique's capacity for fine gradation enables subtle rendering of the mist and spray at the falls' base.
