$200–$2,000. Common Kyoto views: $200–$600. Key value factors: Ito Nisaburo's Kyoto prints are popular and accessible. Night scenes, snow views, and cherry blossom compositions command premiums.
Sarusawa Pond in Nara — the reflecting pool at the base of the Kofukuji temple's five-story pagoda in central Nara, one of the most photographed views in Japan. The pagoda's reflection in the still surface of the pond, surrounded by the willows and reeds that line the water's edge, creates a composition of extraordinary symmetry: the solid, ancient structure above and its mirror image below, united by the reflective surface between them. Nisaburo's woodblock rendering would emphasize the quality of light on the water and the relationship of tower to reflection.
