The station of Kanaya at the crossing of the Oi River appears here through its pagoda — one of the region's Buddhist architectural landmarks. The pagoda's layered profile against the sky was one of the Tokaido's most characteristic architectural silhouettes, the five-storied structure's diminishing rooflines creating a visual rhythm that Sekino's woodblock vocabulary could render with geometric precision.
