Description
The station of Yui in Shizuoka, where the Tokaido ran between the sea cliffs and the ocean on a notoriously narrow coastal shelf, appears here through a window view of Mount Fuji — the framed aperture creating a picture-within-a-picture that mediates between interior and the mountain's exterior grandeur. Sekino's windowed Fuji views emphasize the moment of encounter: the traveler at the inn, glancing up from tea or conversation to find the mountain composed in a wooden frame.
