Kokeshi, LE

This limited edition kokeshi print represents a more formally distributed version of Kawano's engagement with the traditional folk doll. The LE designation indicates careful control over the printing run, with the artist's direct involvement in each impression. The kokeshi's simple geometry — cylinder, sphere, a few painted lines — offered Kawano the same kind of graphic reduction he sought in his most abstract figure work, making the doll a vehicle for exploring pure form.
