Description
"Winter Fireworks," a 2019 mezzotint by Katsunori Hamanishi, shows four white fireworks bursts exploding against a dark charcoal-grey sky, their trailing sparks streaking downward toward a low mountain silhouette. A pale, distant peak rises at the horizon behind the nearer hills, with a dark band of water or shoreline across the bottom edge of the composition. The palette is almost entirely monochrome grey and white, with the bursts rendered in fine radiating lines against the deep tonal ground characteristic of mezzotint.
