From Hokusai's flagship series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (1830–32). Non-iconic designs from this series sold for $30,000–$37,800 at Christie's Mar 2024. A complete set of 46 prints holds the artist record at $3,559,000 (Christie's, Mar 2024).
The Senju district of Musashi Province, the northern gateway to Edo where the Tokaido and Oshu highways converged, is depicted with dyeing and textile workers stretching cloth in the foreground against Fuji's distant profile in this print from the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The dyers' long cloth draped across frames creates a horizontal pattern that echoes the low plains stretching toward the mountain.
