About This Series

Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji is Katsushika Hokusai's most celebrated series and one of the defining works of Japanese art. Published by Nishimuraya Yohachi between 1830 and 1832, the series originally comprised 36 prints, with 10 additional prints added due to the series' extraordinary popularity, bringing the total to 46. The series includes iconic images such as The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Fine Wind, Clear Morning (Red Fuji). Each print presents Mount Fuji from a different vantage point and in varying weather conditions, creating a comprehensive portrait of Japan's sacred mountain while simultaneously documenting the daily lives of ordinary people. The series established the landscape woodblock print as a major art form and transformed Hokusai into one of the most recognized artists in the world.
