Description
"Yukimoyoi" — looking like snow, or having the appearance of imminent snow — captures the particular quality of a sky about to deliver its first fall or a major snowfall: the heavy grey-purple clouds, the strange yellow-white light reflected upward from snow already on the ground, the suppressed energetic tension of weather building toward its release. Nishijima renders this pre-snow atmospheric condition in a composition where the sky's ominous quality dominates and the traditional architecture below waits in the particular stillness that precedes a major snowfall.
