Description
A satirical print depicting worshippers paying comic homage to a Buddha figure, one of the recurring targets of Kyosai's irreverent wit. Kyosai produced numerous works that found humor in religious practice — not from hostility to Buddhism, but from his conviction that even sacred subjects could be examined with a laughing eye. The composition likely features exaggerated devotees in absurd attitudes of worship, rendered with the fluid brushwork that made Kyosai's comic prints among the most technically accomplished in the history of Japanese caricature.
