A single sheet depicting the loyal retainer Okuda Sadaemon Yukitaka, one of the forty-seven ronin who avenged the death of their master Lord Asano in the celebrated Chushingura incident of 1703. Kyosai returned to Chushingura subjects throughout his career, drawn to the story's themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and righteous vengeance. His warrior portraits combine fierce physiognomy with precise rendering of armor and weapons, honoring both the individual's memory and the tradition of warrior-print art.
