A print from the "Yamato Warriors" Chushingura series depicting Muramatsu Sandayu Takanao alongside Yanagihara Heiemon — two loyal retainers whose fidelity to their dead lord extended through years of patient planning before the night of the vendetta. The pairing of figures in the Chushingura series was not arbitrary: Kyosai arranged the portraits to suggest the bonds of friendship, shared rank, or strategic alliance that connected individual ronin within the larger conspiracy.
