A print from the "Yamato Warriors" Chushingura series depicting Okajima Yasoemon Tsuneki and Kurahashi Densuke Takeyuki — two of the forty-seven ronin whose names are less frequently singled out in popular retellings but whose presence in Kyosai's comprehensive portrait series reflects his commitment to commemorating every individual who participated in the famous vendetta. The series as a whole constitutes a kind of collective memorial, honoring the full company of loyal men rather than only the most celebrated.
