A print from the "Yamato Warriors" Chushingura series depicting Okuda Sadaemon Yukitaka — one of the forty-seven loyal ronin — in the format Kyosai adopted for the comprehensive portrait series. Okuda was among the younger members of the group who carried out the 1703 vendetta, and Kyosai's characterization would capture the particular quality of youthful resolve that distinguished the younger ronin from their more seasoned elders: the same commitment, experienced differently in a body and mind that had not yet had decades to harden.
