Description
This third design in Hasui's Chichibu-Tama series likely presents a seasonal variation or alternate viewpoint within the park, possibly a winter or early spring scene given the range of conditions Hasui favored. The Chichibu area provided him with mountain topography uncommon in his coastal and urban subjects, and the prints in this group show his adaptation of [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradation to convey altitude and cold. Printed on dampened [washi](/glossary/washi) using water-soluble mineral pigments applied with a flat-bristled brush and pressed with a [baren](/glossary/baren), each impression captures subtle tonal transitions in sky and water that vary between printings, making individual examples collectible as distinct objects.
