Description
A second commemorative Children's Day print from Hasui, likely differing from the first in viewpoint, season indicator, or figural arrangement. The こどもの日 series suggests Hasui returned to this subject across multiple years, each impression varying in compositional emphasis while retaining the visual vocabulary of koinobori, spring sky, and festival atmosphere. Shin-hanga publishers such as Watanabe issued such seasonal and commemorative prints as part of a broader strategy to maintain collector interest throughout the calendar year. The printing on dampened washi would allow the blue and red pigments of the carp streamers to read with particular saturation against a bokashi-graded sky.
