Description
This print belongs to Hasui's Tabi miyage dai-sanshu (旅みやげ第三集), the third installment of his landmark Souvenirs of Travel series published by Watanabe Shozaburo beginning in the early Taisho period. The series systematically documented scenic locations across Japan through small-format landscape compositions based on Hasui's field sketches. The Nishi Park, Fukuoka entry would depict the cherry-blossom hilltop overlooking Hakata Bay, consistent with the park's reputation as one of Kyushu's foremost hanami sites. Third-series prints from the Souvenirs of Travel follow a compact format typical of the series, with restrained color palettes and precise key-block line work. This series established Hasui's early reputation and influenced subsequent travel-themed shin-hanga print publishing.
