Description
This oban-format print of Shichirigahama depicts the coastal stretch in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, one of the most photographed views in the Kanto region for its prospect toward Enoshima Island and, beyond it, Mount Fuji. Hasui designed multiple compositions of this beach across different series and publication dates, each capturing the site under varying seasonal and meteorological conditions. This version likely features a low horizon line dominated by sea and sky, with the sand foreground rendered in warm ochres and the water in cold blue-greens — a tonal contrast typical of his shin-hanga seascapes. The gradual bokashi transitions from deep water to breaking surf required skilled printing on multiple registration passes.
