Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Sumida Koen (Sumida Park) appears in this second treatment of the subject Kazuma depicted in his earlier "Sumida Park" woodblock of 1930. The park, established along the western bank of the Sumida River with its famous cherry trees and views across the water, was among Tokyo's most beloved public spaces — and one that Kazuma documented from his early career onward. Whether this print captures the park in a different season or from a different vantage, it reflects his sustained engagement with the public green spaces that offered Tokyo's residents relief from urban density.
