Description

Horikawa (the "moat river") in Kyoto, specifically the Toyoko district of Shimogyo ward, is captured here along one of the city's historic north-south waterways. The canals and rivers that network through Kyoto's fabric were among the city's defining features — their banks lined with traditional buildings, their waters reflecting the sky and the architecture above. Kazuma brought to Kyoto's waterways the same attentive eye he had trained on Tokyo and Osaka, the older capital's more consistently preserved urban fabric offering a different quality of atmosphere.
