"Burden of Fengtianfu" is a December 1894 satirical print from Kiyochika's Nippon Banzai! series, with Fengtianfu (modern Shenyang / Mukden) — the symbolic heart of Manchuria — serving as the subject of comic commentary on Qing China's strategic collapse. Japanese forces had by this point swept across southern Manchuria, and Kiyochika's satire reflects the triumphalist mood of Meiji popular culture in the war's final months.
