Oda Nobunaga's celebrated meeting with the daimyo Saito Dōsan (Tōsan) — a pivotal early encounter in the Warring States period that demonstrated the young Nobunaga's cunning over the supposedly wiser older general — is depicted in this undated woodblock print. The scene, set in a farmhouse where Nobunaga spied on Dōsan secretly, was a favourite subject of Edo-period historical narrative and Meiji illustrated history, and Kiyochika's version adds dramatic depth through the confrontation of the two figures.
