Description
Snow at Ochanomizu — the rocky gorge of the Kanda River through the Ochanomizu district — appears here as a companion to the "Ochanomizu yuki" variant, both depicting the same winter site from slightly different vantage points or in different snow conditions. Kiyochika was drawn to Ochanomizu repeatedly because its stone-walled gorge offered an unusual vertical drama within Tokyo's flat urban geography. Snow deepens the site's sense of geological antiquity, the carved rock faces below the bridge emerging from white-laden trees.
