Minamoto Tametomo — here identified by the genealogical attribution "Minamoto Tameyoshi's son Tametomo (1139–1170)" — appears in this 1884 [triptych](/glossary/triptych) from the Nihon gaishi no uchi (Episodes from Unknown Japanese History) series. The full warrior triptych format allowed Kiyochika to spread Tametomo's legendary bulk and strength across three sheets, the archer's famous asymmetric bow arms and the scale of his figure given room to breathe in the panoramic composition. Metallic pigments on the armour catch imagined light in a composition of considerable technical ambition.
