Description
Kiyomizu Temple under a full moon is among the most romantic subjects in the Kyoto landscape repertoire — the great wooden stage lit by moonlight, the city below spread with faint illumination, the surrounding hills dark. Kotozuka's moonlight prints employ a restrained palette dominated by cool blues and silver-whites, with the moon itself typically rendered as a luminous disk whose reflection in water or whose light on architectural surfaces provides the composition's key note. The full moon viewing (otsukimi) is one of autumn's great rituals in Japan.
