$200–$2,000. Temple scenes are among the most popular subjects for this artist. Good temple/seasonal scenes: $500–$1,200. Key value factors: Kotozuka's Kyoto prints are popular and affordable. Seasonal temple scenes and garden views are most sought after.
Dated 1930, the Niwaji Temple Gate (仁和寺山門) represents one of Kotozuka's earlier treatments of this Kyoto architectural subject — a gate he apparently revisited in his career. The 1930 version would show his early woodblock style, shaped by the [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) influence of that era, and comparing it with any later version of the same subject would reveal the development of his technique over the intervening decades. The gate itself, with its powerful architectural presence, remains consistent across treatments.
