Description
Among Kotozuka's several prints of Jingo-ji at Takao, this version likely presents a different season or compositional angle than the others in the set — perhaps the temple seen in winter snow, early spring with bare maples, or from a lower vantage point along the river rather than on the approach path. Jingo-ji's combination of mountain architecture, stone lanterns, and dramatic seasonal foliage made it an endlessly productive subject. Technically, a snow composition would rely on reserved paper white against a grey-blue sky, while a winter-bare version would emphasize the graphic structure of branch networks above stone. The repeated engagement with this single site is characteristic of Kotozuka's place-devoted practice.
