Description
A lake under winter snow — "Kohan no Yuki," snow at the lakeshore — creates a composition of stark contrasts in this undated Senpan print: the white of snow against the dark water, the bare trees along the bank, the silence of a winter landscape at the water's edge. Senpan's winter lake prints share the atmospheric severity of his outdoor bathing scenes, the cold and the quietness creating a different kind of intimacy than his summer subjects.
