$500–$4,000. Common Tokyo views: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Nouet's Tokyo views have historical as well as artistic value, documenting pre-war landmarks. French connection adds collector interest.
Kameido Shrine, marked with the Japanese characters 亀戸, receives a focused treatment in this [oban](/glossary/oban) woodblock print that distinguishes it from Nouet's broader Kameido neighborhood view. The shrine, dedicated to the scholar-deity Sugawara no Michizane, is rendered with attention to its architectural features and garden setting. The famous arched bridge, painted vermillion and reflected in the still water of the pond below, likely serves as the composition's central structure, with wisteria trellises or plum trees providing seasonal ornament depending on when Nouet sketched the scene. The shrine survived the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 but was destroyed in the 1945 firebombing of Tokyo, making prints from this period valuable as records of the lost original structures. Nouet's documentary instinct gives this print historical significance beyond its artistic merit.
